King's Church
A contemporary interpretation of vernacular church architecture, planned from the beginning for a congregation that intends to grow.
The design for this 10,000-square-foot church was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of vernacular ecclesiastical architecture, drawing on the simple forms, proportions, and material character of traditional places of worship.
The sanctuary features exposed wood ceilings that bring warmth and craftsmanship to the interior while reinforcing the building’s sense of permanence and reverence. Particular attention was given to the acoustics of the worship space, creating an environment that supports congregational singing and allows the collective voice of the church to fill the room naturally. Views, daylight, and connections to the surrounding landscape were incorporated throughout the design to strengthen the relationship between worship and the natural setting.
The building and site respond carefully to challenging topography, using the existing terrain to inform building placement, circulation, and outdoor gathering spaces. From the beginning, the church was planned to grow, with the building organization allowing future additions to occur without compromising the clarity or function of the original design. The overall site plan follows the same approach, establishing circulation, parking, utilities, and future building areas that can accommodate the church’s long-term expansion as the congregation grows.
